Mike Louw

Amongst others as a rider on the amateur and, now sadly defunct, Cape Hunt and Polo racing circuit, as a registered breeder, owner, proprietor of a small private breeding establishment and later racing prep yard, as an assistant trainer, stud manager and racing administrator when employed by the Cape Turf Club at Milnerton prior to its amalgamation with the S A Turf Club in the mid 90’s.

He is also the proud father of racing journalist Robyn Louw.

Mike’s endeavours as breeder with a small band of his own select mares proved both rewarding and successful having produced a number of stakes winners, most notably, the multiple stakes winner and East Cape sprint sensation, In a Rush, who was one of only a handful of horses to ever beat Variety Club – as a 2 year old in the East Cape Juvenile Champions Cup  – and who went on to win the Gr 2 Emerald Cup.

He has a comprehensive, and all encompassing exposure and involvement in the throughbred industry.

In addition to overseeing coverings and general horse management, he manages the preparation of yearlings in conjunction with equine behaviourist, Mike de Vrye.
